‘The Secret’ movie has been talked about on tv talk shows such as Larry King Live, Oprah and Ellen. It’s also been written about in magazines and newspapers. As I said before people either love it, hate it, or fall in between somewhere.
Is it really a secret? Not really. The movie is based on the book ‘The Science of Getting Rich’ by James Wattle, which was written in 1910. The idea that our thoughts create our reality was the basis of the movie ‘What the Bleep’ which obtained good commercial success in 2004. It was in theaters for 35 weeks and made $10.6 million dollars. (Not sure of all the correct box office terminology.) Yet I don’t recall that film receiving as much scrutiny and ire as this one, though it did have some.
While I do believe that our most dominant thoughts create our reality, the movie, in my opinion, could have done a better job of showing that we also need to take action. Just thinking about what we want isn’t going to make it happen. Tried that and it didn’t work…
When the concept of the law of attraction is taken to the extreme I can see why people get angry!! On one of the talk shows a guest suggested that a young child attracted her murder. It was so insensitive to the grieving family. The fact that the guest would even think he could comment on that shocked me. Is murder, genocide and war caused by a group of people attracting that to them? Some may say that’s God’s will. Some may say that the reason that some people are born in a country filled with war or famine is to learn whatever lesson they came to earth to learn. How can we even think we know for sure that is true? I don’t know seems to me a more truthful answer.
If, as in The Secret, we decide to choose thoughts that make us feel good and that are in alignment with our goals and the greater good, I don’t see how that can cause us harm. It sure beats thinking unempowering thoughts and feeling bad all the time!
The bottom-line: If what you hear in The Secret or law of attraction resonates with you, use it. If it doesn’t don’t.
